About the teachers:

Deanna ‘Dee’ Copeland has been an Art lover all her life….

After marrying, raising a family of four and completing two degrees (B.Bus HR/IR) and Masters (Adult Ed), Dee was a Sessional Lecturer at two Universities whilst running a WHS business for 21 years. Upon retirement she decided it was time to enjoy the finer things of life.  She had three main goals – to travel, to paint and to write a book!  The tragic loss of her husband in 2011 prompted Dee to travel – firstly around Australia then the British Isles and Europe, where she took a sketchpad and also immersed herself in the history of various countries.

In 2015 Dee moved from Menai to Canberra to be close to her family and revived her passions to paint and write. Dee is mainly a landscape artist using watercolour, acrylic and pen, with a few oil paintings to her name!  She has also written and published two books.

Over the years Dee has attended Art Retreats in Tuscany Italy with Annie Herron, in the UK with Deanna Sergeant, Act in Action Workshops in NSW as well as ASOC Workshops in Canberra. Dee is passionate about local history and enjoys Canberra’s rich heritage through her body of work and as a volunteer at Lanyon.

As an Art and STEM educator, Akka Ballenger Constantin brings her passion for creativity and learning to the classroom. Her STEAM Hive workshops bring together words, colours, and sparks to create unique and memorable experiences for her students.

She uses art as a vehicle to support literacy and STEM learning, helping students to develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Her workshops are known for their fun and engaging approach, and her students leave feeling inspired and empowered.

Akka is a multi-disciplinary artist and poet who is committed to helping others discover their own creative potential. She is passionate about providing equal learning opportunities for all and has a background in journalism, teaching, writing, and art-making.

All art class fees will be paid to the teachers. Open Garden entrance fees along with proceeds from our Open Garden catering will be donated to Big hArt.
