Write around the World – Women’s Voices for Peace book launched and available to order online
Published jointly by Barbara Baikie and Associates & Writing with Light
Many of the Write around the World writers and a big crowd of their supporters gathered at Terroux on 24 May 2025 for the Canberra region launch of this significant book.

Containing memoirs of 24 women from around the world, the book aims to emphasise the peaceful message that human beings have more in common than the things that divide them. It aims to be a quiet but insistent plea for peace and decency on a world scale and in our own lives.
The event began with a welcome to Country by Ngunnawal and Wiradjuri Elder Billy T. Attendees were invited to take part in a smoking ceremony in which we are cleansed of any bad spirits and then there was a dance performance by WATW writer Tiana House and three of her Yukkumbruk Dreaming dancers.
WATW writers Elizabeth Cameron Dalman and Hangama released two peace doves from Doves Above as the audience sent their fervent desires for world peace into the air.
Officially launching the book, Virginia Haussegger commented on the fact that she had been at Terroux 20 years ago celebrating Barbie and Barbara’s previous community writing publication: between the lines – stories of 11 women. She remarked upon the resilience, courage and sense of adventure represented in the stories shared in WATW.
Writers were then invited to speak briefly about their experience of being part of the project and what it has meant to them. During the socialising and sales/signings that followed we enjoyed atmospheric and peaceful music in a performance by local musician Ereignis (Max Fedoseev).
Write around the World is now available for purchase at $35 directly from the publishers and can be ordered online at Write Around the World – Writing with Light
